Recommended Materials: Add a mix of "green" and "brown" items.

"Green" items include: fruit, vegetable scraps, meat, chicken, fish, fish bones, shrimp tails, cheese, eggs, egg shells, tea leaves, grass & plant clippings

"Brown" items include: sawdust, wood shavings (untreated, unpainted wood), bread, rice, pasta, grains, nuts, nut shells, straw, dry flowers, small yard leaves, coffee grounds

Limit very acidic items to 2 lbs (900g) per load: oranges, grapes, berries, plums, pickles, tomatoes. 3-4 piece limit for lemon, lime, grapefruit, pineapple.

Not Recommended Materials:

pourable liquid, chemicals, soap, cosmetics, medicine, plastic, metal, glass, rubber, alcohol, cigarettes, office paper, newspaper, magazines, hard or fibrous itmes such as chicken and steak bones, lobster and clam shells, wine corks, avocado pits, corn cobs & husks, coconut shells, lemongrass, diseased foods, human waste, disposable diapers.

• Compost is high in nitrogen, essential for
  flowering plants and fruit trees.
• One batch of compost is sufficient for 10-40 sq ft (1-4 sq m)
  of a lawn or garden, applied once or twice per year.
• Spread over the surface of the soil like mulch - nutrients will
  slowly enter the soil during watering and annual tilling.
• Apply once or twice per year. Or use one batch
  per mature fruit tree, once per year.
• Infuse with water to brew "compost tea" liquid fertilizer.
